Sonoran Inspired! Fiberart by Nancy Polster
Dec. 12, 2012 to Jan. 14, 2013
Join the Gardens for free artist reception on Dec. 13, 5 to 7:30 p.m.
After spending a large portion of her career as both faculty and administrator at Iowa State University in the Art and Design College, Nancy Polster made the move to Tucson in 2003. Her focus and inspiration since arriving have been primarily the landscape of the Southwest. With an intense background in textiles as a medium, the artist has taken her years of previous knowledge and expanded on it in this new series of work. Polster uses beads, buttons, parts of jewelry, electronic components and other sewable items in combination with yarns and fabrics of various weights and densities, integrating textures, colors and shapes. Her techniques at this exhibition will include stitchery, appliqué, piecework, quilting and beadwork with the saguaro cactus as the primary design motif.
