Butterfly Magic is Tucson’s only tropical butterfly greenhouse and one of the most diverse in the country. Guests can marvel at the spectacular sight of hundreds of butterflies fluttering about amongst lush tropical flora. Throughout the season, over 120 different varieties of butterflies from 11 different countries make their way to the Tucson Botanical Gardens. The butterflies come to the Gardens in their pupae stage and emerge in the chrysalis exhibit right in front of guests’ eyes!
Butterfly Magic is also home to colorful South American dart frogs. There are currently four vibrant dart frog varieties in the exhibit: Tinctorius ‘Oyapok’ (white with bright blue legs and black spots), Tinctorius ‘Citronella (vibrant yellow and blue with streaks of black), Azureus (beautiful blue with black speckles), and Leucomelas (radiant yellow with strong black stripes and splotches).
The very talented horticulture team at the Tucson Botanical Gardens takes pride in cultivating and procuring impressive plant specimens for the butterfly greenhouse. PLante selections include, orchids, bromeliads, air plants and a rare and impressive titan arum. All of these magical components make Butterfly Magic a must-see attraction for Tucsonans and visitors.
